Sustainability Practices
Our Energy approach in our business, has seen significant investment into renewable energy sources on farm and tourism business.
This investment has seen a ground source heating system, with 8 boreholes, two ground source heat pumps backed up with 120 kW of solar production spread over three sites, with 70kw of battery storage and 6 EV charging stations. This brings us closer to our Net Zero target.
We have also invested in air source heat pumps for our Swimspa and hots tubs onsite, to significantly reduce the time and energy consumption needed to refill and heat our water before each guest arrives.
We have many aspirations for the future to enhance wind energy working alongside the Bannau Brycheiniog National Park in understanding the complex nature of the planning process, and to explore a potential community energy project to enhance community energy production and sustainable farming initiatives.
The farm has been the site location for corporate training for many businesses over the past few years, including Tescos, Aviva, The Agricultural Law Society and Amazon.
We have recently invited UNESCO World Leaders to our River in Crai to understand how we have achieved the highest number of salmon smolts for the past three years in the entire Usk Catchment Area. It was a privilege to meet all of those World leaders to explain what farmers are trying to achieve.
We offer a tractor and trailer ride, providing we are not flat out on harvest, to explain how the geology of the ice age has formed our 4th generation family farm in Crai, and to take the time to explain what we do on our farm, and how we appreciate your support in choosing to come to stay with us at Dark Sky Collection.
